That was valid argument against the Kindle a few months ago. But after they cut the price to $139, I can't really agree. At that price it is less than a lot of other specialized electronic gadgets.

ePub is a universaly accepted ebook format. The ePub ebook files can be read on wide range of electronic book readers. With ebooks gaining popularity, ePub format is also fast becoming the preferred industry standard world-wide. You are right if kindle supports ePub, reading ebooks will be a unique experience. Regarding getting files converted to EPub format,I had my hands on various Converters available on internet. But I somehow wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. There were either one or other formatting related issues. . I would like to refer one website http://www.epubconversion.com/ePub-validator-iBook.jsp. I got my work (word files and pdf files) converted in ePub in no time. This site not only converted my work but also validated it, which is one of the most important part in publishing the epub files, especially for the Apple's ipad. It might be helpful in getting your ePub files converted and validated.

Personally I love my Kindle, I was skeptical how much I would like it prior to purchase but the Kindle is as easy on the easy as regular print, with added features such as dictionary support (allowing your to define any word while reading) and the ability to download any new book wirelessly anywhere anytime is great. Although I did finish a book on a plane the other day and was a little miffed I couldn't pick up the next in the series wirelessly (How spoiled am I) Anyways I think the second generation was great, I wouldn't like it to be any larger and for $189 it beats iPad and Nook, just my thoughts if you want to know more check it out here
